I thought I was pretty good too. My specialty was graphite pencils and realistic life drawing. I was fairly good at it too! I'd still enjoy a nice illustration job I think, but in reality it's just hard to find them, or rather, hard to get hired with only an AA. I guess I should have stuck around for my BFA but, problems la la la, you know.

Anyway, I think I'm going to post a few of my favorite pictures on this thing too. All of my art is at my deviant art site, but these are my favorites

I like this drawing for two reasons. The first one being that I think it's really good! And the second is how I came about drawing it. I had miscounted the number of sketches that I had done and I needed only ONE more picture for Monday. (we usually had to do 5-10 per weekend in the sketchbook). Unfortunately, I waited until Monday MORNING to bother re-counting. It's a good thing I did too, because I found my mistake. Anyway, I was really nervous until I saw my roommate sleeping and got inspired. So I took the opportunity and drew her feet. There's not much shading because I was in a hurry. I spent more time on getting the proportions right.\

Total drawing time was around 10-13 minutes. The shading is just pencil smears.
And if you're an art nerd, I used Staedtler 4B and a manual sharpener.

This was from a live model session. Again, I shaded by smearing some of the graphite on my fingers and then rubbing in the areas. The trick is to use a soft lead, touch the darkest part of your shaded area, and smear out. Now, I've been told by professors time and time again that smearing isn't professional. But, I love the effect it makes. It looks so much better than if I was just to do this with hatching or some other graphite technique.

Neato!

Total Drawing Time - around 15 -20 minutes.
I used Staedtler 4B, 2B, and some of a 6B. Manual Sharpener and Staedtler Eraser.

Girl Feet! No they're not mine! I spent a little more time on this one. Actually close to 30 minutes. It wasn't for a class, I just wanted to draw something. That was a long time ago! Anyway, the contours, that's an art word for lines are great and the shading makes it all look real. This time I think I used Staedtler 4B only.
I really like this one, probably one of my personal favorites.

Anyway that's it for this one. Part 2 will have 3 more drawings. That's how I go. 3 per blog. Three is a good number for images!

Enjoy!!

Living In Silence

Back in May I was in an accident and lost my voice. So now basically I'm waiting 6 months (as per my out of court settlement) until a voice repairing operation. And so now, in July, I have gone almost two full months with no voice. Four months left until I can talk again, I'm not even sure how I will sound, but I honestly can't wait. It has been so hard not being able to communicate with anyone. I've been to a few voice therapy classes over the last two months, and they are starting to show a little progress. I can speak a *little* but it's light whispery sound that isn't very attractive and is somewhat hard to here.

I can't discuss major details of what or where it happened (as per the settlement) But if you knew where I worked before, thats where! BUT to put it simply I was hit in the neck, quite hard, and somehow developed what is called Vocal Cord Paralysis when one of the vocal cords stops working. It's kinda weird, at least I had never heard of it before, but it is treatable so It's not the worst thing in the world I guess.

So what have I been doing? Well, I settled out of court for a reasonable amount. SO I've basically been doing nothing for eight weeks. I jog a lot. I also do pull ups. I'm also trying to write some things, maybe a book, but I can't really think of anything. I've read a few books, and surfed the web. I havent drawn anything since a few weeks before my accident when I essentially left home for good.

Maybe I'll get my voice back before they set a date for an operation - at least I hope so. If you are reading this and you can speak, be sure to USE your voice!! Because I was always kinda quiet, but now I can't speak at all. How ironic. You never appreciate what you have until you've lost it.

SOOoo, that's what I'm doing and where I've been. Got any ideas for a book to write? I'm kinda bored!
